Middle or High School (ages 11-17)
The following is a list of possible concerns that may warrant your middle or high school-aged child being screened or evaluated by an occupational therapist:
- Unable to negotiate school environment safely
- Fatigues easily throughout the day; appears lethargic
- Seems to withdraw from touch or touches excessively
- Avoids contact with art media
- Shows excessive need for movement; fidgets; has difficulty attending to task
- Has difficulty tolerating changes in plans and expectations
- Difficulty participating in physical education class
- Unable to complete written work legibly
- Slow when writing; can’t keep up with the rest of the class
- Unable to use word processing as an alternative to writing
- Difficulty finding own errors and self-correcting
- Very disorganized; frequently can’t find or misplaces worksheets
- Unable to manage fasteners when dressing, including tying
- Poor personal hygiene
- Unable to manage clothing as needed (i.e. when toileting)
- Needs assistance when eating
- Unable to open containers, sealed bags, cartons
- Unsafe with tools (i.e. woodworking, sewing, cooking)
- Difficulty managing common tools (i.e. scissors, stapler)
